Trullo Otium, nestled in the heart of the Apulian countryside, borders a small monastery dedicated to Mary Immaculate, which still houses a community of Celestine nuns following Saint Benedict’s "Ora et Labora" philosophy.
The Latin word "otium" does not merely signify the "sweetness of doing nothing"; rather, it represents a lifestyle removed from the burdens of labor, one that reconciles walks, reading, meditation, physical exercise, and social, convivial life.
Trullo Otium is born from the apparent tension between these two principles. It is a sanctuary far from the frenetic pace of the city, where time flows slowly, immersed in nature and local history. It is no coincidence that we feel a profound sense of well-being when surrounded by spaces that evoke past traditions.
This occurs because, in our way of living, we constantly seek a symbolic and spiritual component alongside the technical and functional, a connection that brings us back to our family roots and the history of the land. It is a journey that allows the layers of our personal history to emerge, intertwining with the spaces we inhabit through the use of authentic materials and forms: wood, terracotta, local stone, woven and embroidered linen, and the thoughtful repurposing of antique furniture.
